Marin CAMFT Anti-Racist Impact Statement
Marin CAMFT is dedicated to creating healing relationships and spaces that engender safety and growth. As an organization made up of healers, we recognize the imperative to be sensitive to the safety and needs of all the people we serve or may have the honor to serve in the future including but not limited to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other identities that are marginalized. We affirm our commitment to being an anti-racist, anti-othering organization that promotes equity, inclusion and belonging.
Anti-racism is about action. We believe we must assume responsibility and be engaged in these issues. Marin CAMFT's Inclusivity Committee does this through promoting:
- Ongoing education about white privilege, systemic racism, stigma (of all kinds), cultural needs/differences, cultural trauma
- Supporting our community of therapists and ourselves in taking individual responsibility and promoting opportunities for ongoing self-reflection
- Focus on impact (not intent)
- Holding colleagues accountable for “do no harm”

Hamaseh (she/her), a Marin County native, currently serves as the Director of Inclusivity. Hamaseh is an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at the County of Marin's Behavioral Health and Human Services. As a first-generation immigrant, she appreciates the importance and value of diversity and inclusion. Her hope is that she can bring her commitment to collaboration, her multicultural background, and her passion and serve all CAMFT members. | Lynn (she/her) has been a licensed psychotherapist for 30 years. She has worked with individuals and groups living with HIV/AIDS in the U.S. and South Africa and has a private practice, now online, using Somatic Mindfulness, IFS (Internal Family Systems) and EFT in working with trauma. Lynn has been a strong ally for the LGBTQIA+ community. She is a trained End of Life Doula and volunteers as a bereavement counselor. | Elizabeth (she/her) is committed in her personal and professional life to understanding the perspectives, culture, and history of those who have been marginalized. Elizabeth has provided psychotherapy in English and Spanish to clients in her Terra Linda area private practice since 2015. She hopes her Jewish and Mexican grandmothers see the powerful impact that their lives had on her. |
Hamaseh Kianfar, LMFT is the Marin CAMFT Director of Inclusivity
Kalan (he/they) is a graduate student in the MS Counseling Psychology program at Dominican University of California, training to become a psychodynamic therapist with a focus on LGBTQ+-affirming care and identity work. He is particularly drawn to working with individuals navigating questions of identity, belonging, and visibility. Beyond his clinical training, Kalan provides organizational training on clinical considerations for transgender clients, supporting providers in building more informed and affirming practice. Kalan joined the Inclusivity Committee out of a genuine commitment to making mental health spaces more equitable and affirming. He believes that meaningful DEI work in our field begins with the clinicians themselves, and wanted to be part of a community actively building that culture within MCAMFT. | Mila (she her) brings nearly a decade of experience in behavioral health, supporting individuals and families navigating mental health, addiction, crisis, and life transitions. She is currently an MFT Trainee at University Counseling Services at Dominican University, supporting students through academic, personal, and relational challenges. Her professional background includes leadership and advocacy roles in collaboration with healthcare providers, community organizations, first responders, veterans, and members of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as work supporting students with accessibility and disability accommodations. Fluent in English and Portuguese and conversational in Spanish, Mila is particularly interested in diversity, identity development, cultural humility, and reducing barriers to mental health care. As a member of the Marin CAMFT Inclusivity Committee, she is committed to fostering greater belonging, awareness, and inclusion within the MFT community. |

Purpose, Mission & Vision of the Inclusivity Committee
Marin CAMFT is working to increase awareness of bias and the harms caused by inequality. The Inclusivity Committee is part of these efforts. The Inclusivity Committee meets regularly to discuss initiatives that can be promoted at the chapter level.

Significant Milestones for the Inclusivity Committee at Marin CAMFT

2025: The work of the Committee was re-activated and re-energized at Marin CAMFT under then-President Elizabeth Clark. The committee was renamed to Inclusivity Committee. The committee collected member feedback on diversity efforts through a survey to understand member priorities. Stacy Poe was brought in as a consultant to the board on diversity efforts. The Board of Directors designated one of the existing Directors at Large positions as Inclusivity Director. The chapter's first Inclusivity Director Hamaseh Kianfar was voted in, to serve starting in 2026.
2022: All Marin CAMFT members were invited to the Marin CAMFT Annual Planning Retreat to talk about ideas with the whole chapter on increasing awareness of issues surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion, along with other conversations for membership and planning. The Diversity Committee proposed an updated Mission Statement for the chapter which was approved by the Marin CAMFT Board of Directors. The new Mission Statement as of 4/8/22, with changes marked in blue, is:
The objective and purposes of this chapter shall be to advance marriage and family therapy as an art, a science and a mental health profession, to advocate for and work to achieve diversity, inclusion, and belonging in our leadership, membership, programming, and projects, and to assist CAMFT in furthering its objective on a local level. The chapter may pursue such other objectives and purposes that are in the best interests of CAMFT, its members and the members of this chapter that are not in conflict with CAMFT's Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws or Ethical Standards for Marriage and Family Therapists.
Also in 2022, the chapter implemented a requirement for all Marin CAMFT speakers and presenters to include at least one learning objective focused on diversity. Thank you to then-President Adam Cohen for focusing on these issues throughout his leadership terms. 2021: The Marin CAMFT Diversity Committee offered a study group around the book Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor by Layla F. Saad. 2020: The Board of Directors published the chapter's first list of Diversity Resources (thank you to 2019 President Dan Neuharth for compiling the initial list). The Programs Committee began working to increase the breadth of programming offered through our chapter's continuing education, both in content and also in representation. The Diversity Committee was formed; thank you to Marty Frankel for leading our efforts in this time.
