Family of Origin Therapy

Presented by: Ruth Wetherford, Ph.D
1.5 CEUs

In her talk, Dr. Wetherford will address the following:

  • How to help people shift their focus and desire from changing family members to changing their own reactions to family members;
  • Major concepts of family work with the individual, including personal authority, triangles/triangulation/detriangulation;
  • Best Practices of family of origin work, including assessments, goal setting, and development of a specific plan.
One of Dr. Wetherford's most successful innovations is the integration of self-directed neuroplasticity training (teaching people to activate their parasympathetic nervous systems and DE activate their sympathetic nervous systems, to reduce stress and increase clarity and calm) in preparation for and during each contact with a family member, whether by phone, text, email, letter or in-person visit.  This is dramatically powerful.

Dr. Ruth Wetherford is a licensed psychologist, whose passion is to work Individually with people to improve their relationships with their parents and siblings.  In her 30+ years in private practice in San Francisco and teaching family therapy and other courses at CSPP-Berkeley, (now Alliant University) between 1979 and1999), Ruth has successfully worked with hundreds of individuals to change their habitual ways of reactingto and participating in repeating sequences of negative interactions with family members.
