Marin County CAMFT
Friday Evening Program
September 20, 2013
Family of Origin Therapy
Presented by: Ruth Wetherford, Ph.D
In her talk, Dr. Wetherford will address the following:
- How to help people shift their focus and desire from changing family members to changing their own reactions to family members;
- Major concepts of family work with the individual, including personal authority, triangles/triangulation/detriangulation;
- Best Practices of family of origin work, including assessments, goal setting, and development of a specific plan.
One of Dr. Wetherford's most successful innovations is the integration of self-directed neuroplasticity training (teaching people to activate their parasympathetic nervous systems and DE activate their sympathetic nervous systems, to reduce stress and increase clarity and calm) in preparation for and during each contact with a family member, whether by phone, text, email, letter or in-person visit. This is dramatically powerful.
