SATURDAY WORKSHOP

Saturday, April 30, 2016  1:00 - 4:00
Going Deeper: Using Mindfulness in Couples Therapy
Rob Fisher, LMFT

Learn how to use mindfulness to help couples uncover, explore and transform the core models of relationship, self and the world that influence and predict their daily patterns of engagement and attachment. Using present moment awareness in finely attuned ways can help gently expose the inner organization, deep wounds and core beliefs that determine the repetitive upsets and conflicts which plague relationships. Integrated into therapy, it can help partners communicate in deeper and more vulnerable way that brings them closer together.

This workshop is geared towards teaching practical interventions that one can immediately use in sessions.Topics will include:

  • Simple couple’s assessment
  • How to access unconscious material through the body
  • Working with present time experience,
  • How to explore defenses by supporting them
  • Working with boundaries
  • Working with gestures, posture and tensions
  • Couples sculptures
  • The use of touch in couples therapy
  • Converting blame into self - observation
  • Using physical metaphors for interactional sequences.

Participants in this workshop will:

  • Learn how to use mindfulness to explore couples systemic and intrapsychic issues
  • Learn how to use present time experience to access implicit beliefs and underlying emotional injuries that govern couples interactions
  • Become familiar with a simple psychodynamic/systemic method of assessment
