Health Care Reform and Insurance: What Every Therapist Should Know

Presented by Barbara Griswold, LMFT

With healthcare reform, more clients now have coverage, and they want therapists who accept their insurance.  But what does the Affordable Care Act mean for our practices?  And what’s new about the new CMS-1500 claim form?  Must working with insurance mean fee discounts, limited sessions, mountainous paperwork, and micromanagement of treatment?

Keeping up with all the changes in the insurance field isn't easy.  This entertaining presentation addresses what EVERY therapist should know, even if you don’t work with insurance. What you don't know can hurt you and your clients, so it is important to be informed.

From this workshop, you will learn:

  • What you and your clients need to know about the Affordable Care Act
  • How to turn first-time callers into new clients – even if you aren’t on their health plan.
  • The 12 Crucial Questions to ask when checking coverage to avoid denials
  • How to join insurance plans, even if they are “full”
  • Line-by-line claim instructions to the NEW CMS-1500 CLAIM FORM
  • The secret to fighting care denials – understanding medical necessity
  • Understanding  HMOs, EAPs,  EPOs, PPOs, and POSs  -- and why it matters to you

Note: this workshop will not cover DSM-5 changes
