Short Description
My specialty is working with adults abused as children – emotional, physical, sexual, or neglect. It can be traumatic for a young child to not feel cared for by the caretaker.
Description of Practice
I help adults who have experienced severe childhood trauma (complex PTSD) to begin to reclaim the life they were meant to live. I work well with dissociative clients (dissociative identity disorder). My focus is on helping clients get back to a stable, fully-functional state where the fear and anxiety is greatly reduced, and the ability to be in relationship is significantly improved.

I believe we all have multiplicity, and therefore do "parts-friendly" psychotherapy.

During the trauma resolution portion of the work, I primarily use body-oriented approaches called Somatic Experiencing and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. My aim is to do the trauma resolution work at a pace and in a way that does not overwhelm you or make it difficult to function in day-to-day life.

I have found that the trauma resolution work goes much faster and with less chance of re-traumatization when the initial focus is placed on helping the client to get into a safe, secure place with new internalized parent figures (earned secure attachment). This will probably make sense to you, because with childhood trauma the child typically wants to attach to the caretakers, and at the same time is not being kept safe by them and worst case is even being abused by them – quite a dilemma for the child.

I also do work with couples, especially where childhood trauma may be interfering with their ability to relate to each other.

I'm currently seeing private practice clients in San Rafael.

I enjoy doing the work I do. I enjoy helping clients reclaim the lives they were meant to live. This is a work of joy for me.
